Rates and charging

The same rate applies to every service, whether DSP or C-DSP. Maxxwave believes in offering competitive rates to everyone rather than making some services pay more than others, so we do not offer discounts. All prices exclude VAT. The tariff may be altered on one month's notice.

Contract and payment

Carriage is on a rolling monthly contract, payable in advance. Invoices are raised on the first of the month preceding the month of carriage, and must be paid by the first of the month to which carriage relates. Where payment has not been received by that date we may treat the contract as terminated and discontinue carriage without further notice. Resuming a discontinued service requires the outstanding balance to be cleared together with the £300 reconnection fee.

Audio supply

Audio is ingested into the multiplex via web stream, and the quality of the audio supplied to us remains the service provider's responsibility.

Error correction

EEP-3A for DAB+ and UEP-3 for DAB are the standard protection levels, and are the basis on which Ofcom's published coverage maps are produced. Ofcom's Digital Radio Technical Code does not permit weaker protection than these. Stronger levels such as EEP-1A or UEP-1 may improve reception in marginal signal areas, but they use more capacity, so the cost is higher for the same audio bitrate.

Slideshow images and text

Images and text shares the audio bitrate and so audio quality can suffer as a result. Where you wish to proceed, we charge a one-off fee of £250 to prepare your image and fixed text. Services need to specifically ask for this to be enabled and provide high resolution image and text.

Minimum bitrate where a service is already broadcast locally

To maintain a consistent listener experience, where a service is also broadcast on FM or on another DAB multiplex whose coverage overlaps ours, we require no less than 65% of the bitrate used there, rounded up to the next bitrate in this tariff. For this purpose an overlapping FM service is treated as 64 kbps DAB+ or 192 kbps DAB, giving a minimum of 48 kbps DAB+ or 128 kbps DAB for any service on FM. Where the comparator uses a different codec, bitrates are compared on the basis that DAB+ is three times as efficient as DAB.

Service providers must tell us, on application and thereafter if it changes, the bitrate at which the service is carried on any overlapping broadcast platform. Where the comparator bitrate is higher than declared or subsequently increases, we may require a corresponding increase on one month's notice.

We will consider written requests for exception where a compelling case is submitted in advance of carriage commencing, or promptly following any change in the comparator service.

Services with no overlapping broadcast comparator are not subject to a minimum. Online streaming is not a comparator. This requirement applies to all services carried, including any in which Maxxwave or its associates have an interest.
